The Flying Lobster - The restaurant's inside and terrace tables provide full ocean views. At breakfast there's a big buffet as well as à la carte choices. Steaks and seafood highlight the dinner menu. On Saturday nights, a seafood buffet is offered.
Royal Coconut Grove Lounge - A large-screen television for sports, nightly Hawaiian musical entertainment, salad-and-sandwich lunches, tropical drinks, and an after-dark menu of light foods make this open-air poolside spot highly popular.
Luau - Five times a week an acclaimed luau featuring the classic pit-steamed pig takes place on a lawn near the hotel's tennis court. (Guests can watch the pig being prepared in the morning.) Following the feast, a Polynesian show provides musical and dance entertainment.
The Kaui Coconut Beach is the only full service hotel on the Coconut Coast. The hotel features an ocean view freshwater pool and Jacuzzi, a restaurant with affordable dining options, a casual open-air lounge, and three tennis courts.
Located on Waipouli Beach just minutes from the Lihue Airport midway between the Poipu and Princeville resort areas.
Jolly, no-pretense hospitality greets guests. A large coconut-tree grove in front of the resort and an entrance and parking lot graced by hundreds of shorter palm trees are emblematic of the hotel's this-is-Hawaii motif.
Amenity highlights: Permanent benches along the beach provide ideal spots for sunset- and whale-watching. A walking/jogging path runs parallel to the beach, which itself is a wonderful walking strip, although the water is unsafe except for the strongest swimmers and snorkelers. The ocean can also be seen from the pool, which is surrounded by a sun deck that includes a spa.
Insider tip: The Royal Coconut Coast is an 8-mile strip of sandy beaches, unsurpassed ocean views, and low-key activity. Long ago, the Wailua River, fed by rainfall on Mt. Waialeale, the wettest spot on earth, provided abundant water for ancient Hawaiians to cultivate crops in this area. As a result, the coast abounds in archeological sites worth visiting.
Please note: The hotel pool, restaurant, and lounge will be under renovation until August 2004. Room service will be available for dinner only. A daily breakfast buffet will be offered in the Halau. Daily housekeeping also will be provided. The hotel’s luau will be available every night except Saturday and Monday.
For recreation, the resort includes three tennis courts and a pro shop as well as shuffleboard. Three times weekly Hawaiian artisans sell their creations in the lobby. The torch-lighting ceremony near the pool includes a cast of musicians and dancers.
In the lobby, an activity desk arranges luaus, excursions up the nearby Wailua River, helicopter sightseeing trips to North Kauai's spectacular Napali Coast, and all other activities available throughout the island.
