This beach resort, built in a traditional British Colonial style, is set on an isthmus with the Caribbean Sea to the immediate North and the tranquil Rodney Bay on the South. The venerable, 200 year old Fort Rodney sitting atop a nearby hill to the southwest protects the bay and would appear to also protect this manicured beachfront resort. Every guest room and suite at Sandals Grande St. Lucian features a private balcony or patio.
Visible for miles around Rodney Bay, the vividly colored resort offers 284 guestrooms in six three- and four-story canary-yellow buildings with blue corrugated steel roofs surrounded by spacious lawns and flowering gardens. Bayside - Open-air restaurant adjacent to pool. International breakfast, lunch buffets. Late-morning Continental breakfast. Dinner buffets three nights weekly. À la carte dinner service four nights weekly featuring spa-cuisine and vegetarian dishes along with appetizers, salads, soups, steaks, pizza, seafood. Dress code: casual at breakfast, lunch; long pants or dress shorts and collared shirts for men at dinner.
The Barefoot By The Sea - Casual beachside spot. Lunch service on wood deck at umbrella tables and at cushion-seat picnic-tables-for-two under thatch roofs. Dinner service in pavilion only. Lunch menu of burgers, sandwiches, salads, fish and chips, and stir-fry. Dinner selections include crab cakes, mussels in coconut milk, conch chowder, and seafood dishes. Dress code: casual, with tank tops, swimwear not permitted at dinner.
The Olde London Pub and Restaurant - Casual, air-conditioned pub with seafaring/brewery decor. English pub grub such as fish and chips, smoked pork sausage, veal-and-ham pie. Full meals include prime rib with Yorkshire pudding, lamb curry. Vegetarian selections, also. Dress code: casual.
Toscanini's - Air-conditioned restaurant serving American breakfast, Italian dinners. White-glove dinner service. Floor, recessed ceilings of polished wood. Fieldstone columns. Dark green walls. Antipasti bar. Pasta selections such as fusilli with artichokes, fettucine with mushrooms. Main courses include Sicilian-style grilled marlin, veal piccata, roast duck, Tuscan fish stew, and grilled vegetable platter. Dinner dress code: long pants, collared shirts for men.
Monday nights feature a beach party with barbecue buffet on the beach. The resort has nine bars, including those in the amphitheater where nightly entertainment is presented, a late-night piano bar, a sports bar, and two swim-up bars.
Josephine's - Air-conditioned room under bleached-wood ceiling, with blue walls, multi-colored drapes. Open-air deck seating at umbrella tables, also. Open for savory and sweet crepes and waffles, desserts, espresso, teas, specialty coffees.
Palladium Night Club - Air-conditioned. Dark green walls, dark blue recessed ceilings, chandeliers. Open late for dancing to live bands or DJ music.
Piano Bar - Air-conditioned. Lipstick-red walls, overstuffed lounge seating. Singalong piano music.
Jacquot's Lobby Bar - Open-air, upper-level spot with panoramic Caribbean and sunset views. Hot and cold appetizers served at sunset.
For extra charges, couples can arrange champagne breakfasts in bed, champagne cocktail hours with appetizers, champagne with chocolate truffles at bedtime, and champagne dinners in candlelit gazebos.
